Husband and Wife Photography Team

Many times, couples will ask us, “what's is like being a husband and wife photography team anyway?”, meaning what’s it like to be married and also be a wedding photo team in the process?

As someone that’s been in the wedding industry more than two decades, I’m starting to see more and more couples as commonplace for photo & video, so I wanted to give you a couple of insights on the subject.

Well, it’s a lot of fun, sometimes we disagree about things, but it all boils down to good communication and a great game plan. Today, we’ll give you some insights to being a husband and wife photography team.

Okay, we TRULY have FUN together!

One of the joys of running a business with your spouse is that you get to spend a lot of time with them. Carole and I are a team and that means we are together, sometimes a lot more than other couples.

It’s a joy to be a spouse and work towards those common goals together, getting out of debt, working on building a future together, spending time with the kids and the pets, plus working together at weddings is honestly just as fun!

We get to see the results of the wedding in both images and video and we also help each other out when needed.

We Help Each Other Out

Although Carole’s background is in wedding photography and my background is wedding films, we do help each other out when needed, especially if there are moments the other can’t cover, and that’s extremely helpful during the wedding day.

That’s one of the benefits of being husband and wife wedding photographers, we can support each other during the day.

There have been times where I wished I was able to get the bride’s dress buttoned up, but I couldn’t, so Carole got her shots, then switched into video mode and grabbed a couple of shots for the film.

And vise versa, I’ve been there to help capture some things that Carole wasn’t able to get because she’s with the bridal party. I remember taking video of some guests during golden hour and the bride was looking for Carole to take some golden hour wedding photos.

Well, I was able to message her while she was with the groom and groomsmen and I was able to step in and take images until she walked back after a few minutes.

In fact, in our part of Virginia, we were the first business to offer both wedding photos and video and we’re just one of two companies that offer the service in the western part of the state.

Double the Coverage

And that’s important being a wedding team, coverage. One of the best things about being a married wedding photo/video team is that we understand what the other one wants and what the other needs too, so we’re able to step in and step up to the plate if need be.

Many times having double the wedding coverage is better than a single shooter and with our simple services, we make it affordable and easy in the same process.

The other great thing is that we’re able to teach the kids about weddings, photos, and videos when we take them with us from time to time.

Sometimes, We Disagree and That’s Okay

Being a married couple, sometimes we disagree about things and that’s perfectly okay.

Sometimes, it’s about bills, where to go on vacation, what to have for dinner and sometimes it’s work-related.

Listen, I’m going to tell you that marriage isn’t 100% flowers, rainbows, and lollipops, at times, you will disagree on various things, you’ll get mad at the stupid things the other one does, but having a good line of communication is a strong key to a great marriage.

“The key to a good marriage is communication.”

Being able to speak your mind and come up with a game plan to fix the issue at hand or correct the problem is key. It’s not always easy, but as long as you work on things together as a team, that’s what gets you through the issue and grows like a couple.

There is No Secret

One thing I can tell you is that working together at weddings, there is no secret behind being that husband and wife wedding photography team, in fact, it’s quite the opposite.

The best way I can explain it to you is this, working with your spouse is a rewarding and fun venture, it’s an extension of the day-to-day life with your best friend and while sometimes rough, it’s extremely rewarding to see your better half create some fun, amazing work in the process!
