Ultimate Guide to Roanoke Wedding Venues
As a couple getting married, you have many choices when it comes to wedding venues.
A quick Google search and you’ll find a good amount of venues in within the region.
From barns, hotels, downtown to country, wineries to dedicated wedding venues we wanted to showcase them for you and provide some additional information to help you make a better decision when it comes to narrowing them down.
Before we begin, let’s get some stats and general information.
How Many Wedding Venues are in Roanoke?
The number changes from wedding season to wedding season however in 2020 there are 122 registered venues in the Roanoke Valley according to the Virginia SCC Entity Search.
And yes, I’m sure there are others that are not on the list.
In fact on Wedding wire, that number is closer to 146, although some have closed and some are under new ownership and not doing weddings at the moment.
Trust me when I say that it took me nearly 2 weeks to go through large amounts of data that I had to pull from the SCC.
Not including free places such as parks, the price ranges in our region from as low as $199 to more than $19,500+.
Yes, almost $20,000 just for the venue and that is local within an hours drive of Roanoke.
What Should We look for in a Wedding Venue in the Roanoke Area?
That’s a great question! Indeed, there are a few things that you need to look for in a wedding venue when you are searching for one.
First, we’ve heard horror stories of a few venue owners and their temperament towards couples and guests, right here in our region. While we won’t point fingers, a little online reviewing and you’ll find them.
Second, there are some basics that you need in a wedding venue and not all have them. They include:
Plenty of parking for guests
A room for bridal prep and a second one for groom prep
A good amount of restroom facilities. For example, a single stall bathroom will not be enough for 200 guests.
A prep area for your catering. This doesn’t need to be a full kitchen, but it does need to be a good area for them to prep everything you are eating or drinking.
Power. Believe it or not, some venues have no power and that is an issue. DJ’s need power, you’ll need lighting for outdoors or tents and photographer’s and videographers may need it to recharge their gear too.
A backup location in case of rain. This IS important, I’ve been to so many weddings in my career where they had an outdoor wedding with NO indoor backup plan. This could be a building, a barn, a house, a tent, whatever. Just make sure the venue has a weather proof backup plan if you are getting married outdoors.
What should we look for when signing a venue in Roanoke?
First, make sure that you have a signed agreement from both parties. Second, make sure that in that agreement there are provisions that protect you and your soon-to-be spouse and also that protects the venue too.
Contracts should have the basics that include the total cost of the venue, listing of what it includes, like rooms, tables, chairs and linens. It should also include a time frame so you’ll know when to prep for the wedding and when to have everything taken down.
NEVER pay ANY wedding vendor more than a 50% retainer or deposit. You don’t know them and they don’t know you. 99% of wedding vendors are great and you’ll never have issue with them, but if someone closes up shop suddenly, it’s better to have paid half then whole up front.
If possible, ask about a deposit/retainer and monthly payments. That ensures the venue (or vendor) is still in operation up until your wedding and you have monthly contact with them too.

This is a small winery located in AltaVista and they are able to accommodate roughly 300 guests. They have a price range of $5,000 to $7,000 for their winery as a wedding venues.
Winery located 20 minute south of Roanoke
As you walk on the property, prepare to be immersed in rustic and natural splendor – lovely estate vineyards all around, tall deep-rooted trees, a sparkling pond with wildlife – set before striking views of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. 200 guests.
Gold Course located 10 minutes North of Roanoke
Ashley Plantation is a country club located just north of Roanoke and they offer weddings with about 150 guests. They have a clubhouse and facilities that can handle a wedding of any regard.
Estate located near Lynchburg
The Avoca Museum is a 1901 Victorian Mansion situated on a vast lawn with a beautiful garden. We are nestled in a cute little town in central Virginia right outside of Lynchburg. With our 12 hour wedding day packages starting at just $3000, anyone can afford to have the best day ever! 150 guests is their max.
